First grade is an important year for learning basic Maths. During this year, the child is introduced to numbers and simple mathematical concepts. Some Mathematically gifted children may be able to perform these tasks with ease. However, for others, the whole concept of Maths may become quite challenging and frustrating if they are not introduced to the subject in an enthusiastic way.
In this year, first graders would be introduced to ‘Place Values’ (such as Numbers from 0 to 100, Ones and Tens and 2-digit numbers), ‘Addition and Subtraction’ with one-digit and two-digit numbers and ‘Shapes’ of different 2D and 3D mathematical or geometric figures.
Our quizzes are designed with young first graders in mind. The focus is on helping first graders learn about basic maths skills on numbers, counting and understanding geometrical shapes. With the help of interactive and attention grabbing questions, the child will find interest in the subject. Practicing these Maths quizzes regularly would help to gradually improve their mathematical skills and students are bound to excel in their classes by the end of the year.
The Topics that will be covered through our 1st Grade Maths Quizzes are:
Shapes – The ability to accurately identify shapes of different objects around us is an important foundational mathematical skill. The first graders are introduced to lines, boundaries and shapes of different 2-dimensional shapes and 3-dimensional figures. While 2D figures have a flat surface, 3D figures have an additional dimension comprising of ‘depth’.
2D shapes – Circle, Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Pentagon, Hexagon, Heptagon, Octagon, Nonagon, Decagon, Parallelogram, Rhombus, Quadrilateral and Trapezium.
3D figures – Cube, Cuboid, Prism, Sphere, Cone, Pyramid, Cylinder and others.
For testing your level of understanding about Mathematical and geometric shapes, you can take SchoolQuizzes tests on 2D Shapes and 3D shapes.
Addition – Signified by a ‘+’ (plus) symbol, Addition is one of the very basic Arithmetic operation. It is the method by which we find a sum or a number by combining two or more numbers.
Ex: If you have 3 Chocolates and you ask for 2 more Chocolates from your Mother, then together you have ‘3 + 2 = 5’ Chocolates.
Subtraction – Signified with a ‘-’ (minus) sign, subtraction is the method by which you take away one number from another. It is the opposite of addition. First graders can do subtraction using three types of methods: Diagram, Number Line and the Borrow method.
Ex: Referring to the above example for Addition, if from those 5 chocolates, you decide to give 1 chocolate to your best friend, then now you will have a total of ‘5 – 1 = 4’ chocolates. For practicing elementary mathematics, you can take SchoolQuizzes tests for Adding and Subtracting One Digit Number from a Two Digit Number, Adding and Subtracting Two Digit Numbers and Addition Facts to 100.
