Second grade is a wonderful year where your child gets a hang of the school routine and becomes more independent. For Second Graders, Maths become all the more challenging and much interesting than their previous grade. By now, your kid knows how to use numbers and has a repertoire of basic addition and subtraction combinations. During this year, kids will need to focus on conceptual understanding of the subject and emphasize on numeracy. There would be bigger numbers, bigger challenges and bigger maths lessons. Constant practice through interactive maths quizzes is a fun way to overcome these hurdles and acquire fluency in Maths.
2nd Grade Math contains topics from the previous grade, but the lessons have an increasing level of difficulty. The topics covered in 2nd grade are: Place Value (Hundreds and Three-Digit Numbers), Addition and Subtraction within 100, Counting, Shapes, Recognizing Patterns, Measurement of length, Money and Time. While these topics may surprise you, they are indispensable and are reflected in almost every activity that we practically perform in our everyday life.
Addition and Subtraction is an important part of the curriculum for second graders. Your kid will know by now that addition means putting together while subtraction means taking away. Kids would also learn how to add or subtract two or three digit numbers with or without regrouping.
Skip Counting is another interesting topic they get to learn this year. Skip counting is often called Counting in 2s, 5s, 10s, 20s and so on. It’s the first step to learning other arithmetic operations such as Multiplication and Division. In everyday life, Skip counting is very useful in counting things around us in a quick and easy way, such as a pair of socks, money, groups of five and more. Every skip counting has a pattern – the more common ones being addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, prime numbers, even numbers, odd numbers, 5s, 10s, 100s and so on. Skip counting also helps your child to develop logical reasoning skills.
In their second grade, children love to explore exciting ways to learn maths through activities and games.
